The new Palace of Justice is located on the new IJdock peninsula on Westerdoksdijk.

The old Palace of Justice on the Prinsengracht had become too small after 175 years and moved to the IJdok.

The new Palace of Justice was designed by Claus & Kaan Architects (Felix Claus 1956, Kees Kaan 1961).

The two buildings that make up the Palace of Justice are connected between the sixth floor of each building by a sky bridge.

The facade consists of five gray or white materials: natural stone, ceramic elements, whitened concrete, glazed brick and powder-coated steel plate.

The facades have glass openings that offer a view over the IJ. The buildings provide space for approximately 700 workplaces,

19 courtrooms, space for the press and lawyers and 26 cells.
